Frank Kämmer MS has successfully worked in the luxury restaurant industry for nearly 20 years. In his career he gained many titles and honours, both national and international, and he was recognized as one of Europe’s leading sommeliers. In 1996, Frank Kämmer passed the Master Sommelier examination, which is generally acknowledged as the highest international level of proficiency and knowledge in this profession. Since his career as a sommelier he has become a successful consultant to the wine and restaurant trade. Frank Kämmer is author of numerous books about wine and spirits and he is a frequent contributor to various publications such as „Gault Millau Weinguide“ and „Feinschmecker“. Kämmer was the first German to become member of the British “Circle of Wine Writers”.
Sigi Hiss has lived in the Zurich area in Switzerland since 2005, and earns his living as an independent wine journalist. He is a lecturer at IWI, and also organizes tastings of rare wines. As an independent author, he writes for, among others, for the German Sommelier Magazine, WeinWisser, Captain-Cork, Vinum and The World of Fine Wine. Absolutely independent, and not beholden to anybody, he has made quite a name for himself as an uncompromising taster. The vine dresser and Administrative Director worked for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (in the field of central services) in Bonn and Berlin until his early retirement in 2007. Within his wide range of duties he was mainly responsible for the program administration of research and development for many key technologies. Paul Gieler is a vine dresser from the bottom of his heart. He is also proud to be one of the founders of the Burgundy panels 2007, 2009 and 2011. Together with Dr. med. Gerhard Kreuter he launched the Panel Talks "Ahr Wines" in January 2009. G. Kreuter was able to present his profound knowledge about the wine, its positive medical aspects and the terroir Ahr in many well attended panel discussions. In the spotlight stood the Spaetburgundy with its wide variety. Paul Gieler did wonderful work on the topics of the Ahr River, his hometown and the product wine with careful research and many publications especially in the Deutschen Weinbaujahrbuch 2011 (the German Wine dresser year book 2011).
Dr. med. Gerhard Kreuter
1982 to 2005: chief physician in charge of department of internal medicine/stroke unit at the Maria Hilf hospital in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Germany, medical director of the hospital for 8 years. Since the early 1990’s: involved in scientific study of the topic of “wine and health”, produced around 250 lectures and publications on the subject, as well as radio and TV interviews. Since 1996: member of the scientific advisory board of the German Wine Academy in Mainz (DWA) Head of the Ahr wine diabetes study carried out by the German Wine Academy in 2003/2004. Presented this study at the Congress of the German Society for Internal Medicine in Wiesbaden on 5.4.2005. Since 2006/07: active cooperation and co-author of double trial: „Influence of red wine resp. white wine on endothelial progenitor cells and on endothelial function in Type 2 diabetics“, in conjunction with the III. Clinic for internal medicine at the University of Cologne, Prof. Dr. Markus Flesch.. For this work, the „Dr. Heinz von Opel Prize“, which was presented for the first time in 2009, was awarded. Presentation of results of studies at the European Congress of Cardiology in Barcelona on 2.9.2009. Joint organizer and lecturer at the Pinot Madeleine forums held at the Marienthal abbey in the Ahr valley in 2007, 2009 and 2011. Co-author of book published in January 2009 by the German Forum for Wine and Health, titled „ healthy enjoyment with wine“ – published by Gebrüder Kornmayer. Together with Norbert Görres and Paul Gieler founded the discussion group on Ahr wine in January 2009.
